When There is More to a Story

I write short stories and novels. Sometimes, when I start writing I don't know where the story will take me. Sometimes the story will be short, and other times it can be an epic saga. How do you know when there is more to a story?

I wrote a short story - Xenure Station: A Billion Light Years. It is a science fiction drama and I published it in 2019. The reaction from my beta readers and the reviews I received meant this short story had more to give. The short version is currently available on Amazon.

I'm pleased to announce that this short story is now a trilogy - Xenure Station Trilogy. You will soon be able to follow the lives of Dawa and Zenac as they continue to fight against The Enforcers. They fight to save humanity from the tyranny of these henchmen and their leader, the Ultimate High Priest.

As I was writing the first book, I did have a feeling the story would be bigger. I decided to publish it as a short story to gauge readers' reactions, and I'm glad I did. By having a gap of a year, I was able to write Book 2 and 3 making this short sci-fi into an epic space drama. Dawa and Zenac's journey is fraught with dangers as they fight the enemy.

Not every short story will turn into an epic, and as I mentioned, I didn't set out to write a trilogy. This story had more to tell and I let it happen.

Storytelling is an ancient art, and I am so grateful for this gift I have been given. When I wrote the first draft of my debut novel, The Decision They Made, at 27 years old, I shelved it after it was completed. Finding it again during a clean-up was the beginning of this latest chapter in my life (excuse the pun). With three short stories, two novels, and this science fiction trilogy coming out later in 2021, this writing career is giving me pleasure. I do hope my readers get pleasure out of reading my stories too.

Happy reading,

Maria P Frino
